The mission “to assess the economic and technical feasibility of adding value to mother-of-pearl products in French Polynesia ” provided the Marine Resources Directorate (DRM) a decision-making tool that will enable managers of Polynesian institutions as well as private players to assess the real potential for developing a pearl industry in French Polynesia. 

The study identified the most relevant value-adding avenues, assessed their profitability and implementation, then defined the needs for technological and financial support.
