Elcimaï supports Biosynthis in the development of its production site

Context of the development of the Biosynthis production site

Created in 2001, BIOSYNTHIS specializes in plant-based chemistry and the production of biobased ingredients, mainly for the cosmetics market, which is undergoing profound change.

To produce its patented formulas, BIOSYNTHIS set up in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in 2016, on a former Unilever production site located in the commune of Dissay (86) near Poitiers.

In order to respond to the development of its activities with the biggest names in French and international cosmetics, in 2019 BIOSYNTHIS has acquired a 5,000 m² 3-hectare brownfield site, adjacent to its main site, and has entrusted the Elcimaï Group with a project management mission, with several objectives :

contribute to the company’s development by increasing production capacity,

– bring together all production tools and support functions on a single site,

– internalize all or part of capacitive subcontracting,

– integrate locally produced raw materials into processes,

– integrate new technologies such as sustainable hydrogen and on-site solar electricity.

Project feature

After a feasibility study three years ago, an initial 3,500 m² building has been fitted out and is already operational. BIOSYNTHIS chose Elcimaï not only for its expertise in the Cosmetics field, but also for its know-how in integrating a process into an existing building and in flow management, and for its industrial risk management skills.

EcoResponsible Solutions IMPLEMENTED

A “green hydrolyser” and a hydrogenation unit were therefore integrated into the site, under contract with EDF – Electricité verte, thanks to government support under the France Relance plan, which aims to accelerate the country’s ecological, industrial and social transformations. Biosynthis wanted to produce the hydrogen needed for its process itself. Until now, the products were shipped to Germany and returned to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, but now the hydrogen is produced on demand, using the sun and water from the process. A nice reduction in its carbon footprint.

HQE (High Environmental Quality) certified plant. This approach aims to improve the Environmental Quality of buildings (EQB) over their entire life cycle. It encompasses the entire lifecycle of buildings, from programming to demolition.
